My wife and I were driving along Interstate 95 through Florida on a beautiful, sunny afternoon. We were chatting pleasantly. The cruise control was set at 55 miles per hour and we were in the middle lane. A car on the left whizzed past us and suddenly swerved into our lane. I had to stomp quickly on the brakes to prevent a nasty accident. My wife didn’t see the car but she felt the effect of the brakes, which caused her body to lurch forward. The mind is the most private part of your inner life. No one can know for sure what you allow to enter into it, and no one can know what goes on in your mind unless you reveal it. The longer I work with people, the more convinced I become that everyone can and does control his mind. We make our own decisions, and no one can change them. Everyone has the power of choice.
You have to live with yourself. But what about the rest of the world? Your behavior toward others is just as important to building self-respect. Interacting with people often reveals unexpected, self-centered behavior.
You are in a crisis. You need to make a decision, and fast. The question pops into your mind from the WWJD bracelet you are wearing…what would Jesus do? How will you know what Jesus would do when you don’t have time to go hunt up your Bible and research the issue?
